West and East Slavic Dialects in Contact

Institute of Slavonic Studies of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Department of Slavonic Linguistics, cordially invites you to participate in the conference WEST AND EAST SLAVIC DIALECTS IN CONTACT which will be held in Prague on 3 – 4 November 2026 (Academic Conference Center, Husova 4a, Praha 1).

Our goal is to facilitate discussion among researchers studying dialect contact between the West Slavic and East Slavic language areas. We welcome submissions focusing on mutual contacts between the dialects of Polish, Slovak, Czech, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Rusyn, and Russian, particularly within the following thematic areas. 

Topics:

  • Polish – Belarusian dialect contact
  • Polish – Ukrainian and Polish – Lemko dialect contact
  • Slovak – Rusyn and Slovak – Ukrainian dialect contact
  • Inter-Slavic lexical borrowings in North Slavic dialects 
  • Phonetic and grammatical phenomena conditioned by inter-Slavic dialect contact
  • The language of Russian Old Believers in contact with Polish
  • Dialects in literature and dialect literature on the border between West and East Slavic languages 
  • Standardisation of spoken varieties on the West and East Slavic border
