Vyprávění a pís­ně Rusínů z východ­ního Slovenska

This book that carries on from Czech dialectological research into the Ruthenian Ukrainian dialects of Eastern Slovakia which took place in the 1950s and 1960s. In their field research Czech Ukrainist linguists gathered a collection of dialect sound recordings which is unique in its extent and preserved today on 91 CDs. The sound recordings selected as samples for this publication documentarize what was still the patriarchal lifestyle of the Ruthenians of Eastern Slovakia and their living dialect speech, which had not yet been fundamentally impaired by new civilizational and social influences. The narratives and songs are presented in the publication both in their original form (in simple transcription) and in Czech translation. The publication includes some one hundred songs, all with musical notation (with two enclosed CDs). This book came into being thanks to collaboration between Czech and Slovak specialists in linguistics, ethnology and musicology.
