Chrestomatie jihokarpatských nářečí

This book publishes current dialect texts recorded during the author’s field research in 2012 – 2019 among Rusyns and Ukrainians in eastern Slovakia and in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine. The book contains texts from 14 municipalities, 11 of which are located in Slovakia (Závadka, Poráč, Slovinky, Helcmanovce, Pača, Osturňa, Veľký Lipník, Stráňany, Sulín, Matiaška and Ubľa) and 3 in Ukraine (Korytňany, Ilnycja and Koločava). The most common topics represented in the texts are customs associated with the holidays of the calendar cycle (especially Christmas and Easter), wedding, preparation of everyday and holiday meals, processing of flax, hemp and wool, spinning, weaving, home farming, but also local specific topics such as mining. Much space is devoted to informants“ stories about their own lives, memories of World War II and life in the post-war decades.
