Slovanské dialekty v jazykovém kontaktu

This collective monograph contains 27 studies devoted to language contacts in border dialects at the lexical level. The authors of the monograph are leading experts in dialectology from important academic institutions in nine countries: the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia and Croatia. Studies dealing with the dialect lexis of several Slavic-Slavic and Slavic-non-Slavic language boundaries are organized into four chapters. The first chapter contains works from the Slavic-Baltic border, includes studies examining both Baltic influences in Polish, Belarusian and Russian dialects, as well as Slavic influences in Lithuanian and Latvian dialects. The second chapter is devoted to Slavic-Slavic contacts, namely Polish-East Slavic and Belarusian-Ukrainian. The third chapter includes works on linguistic contacts between the languages of the Carpathian area, the authors of the individual studies deal with the vocabulary of Polish Podhale, Slovak Gemer, Rusyn and Ukrainian South Carpathian dialects, as well as Czech dialects in Valašsko. The fourth chapter combines studies from distant linguistic borders – Polish-German, Croatian-Hungarian and Russian-Finno-Ugric, as well as work on Croatian language traces in South Moravia and a study of contacts of Czech dialects with other languages whose speakers were settled in the Czech lands. The presented book is proof that the topic of dialectal contacts in the lexicon level belongs to the extremely topical issues of contemporary dialectology.
