Duration

The project is focused on the research of language contact of Belarusian, Ukrainian and Carpatho-Rusyn dialects with West Slavonic languages and their dialects. The solution of the project presupposes a description of the extent of linguistic interference at the level of phonetics, grammar and especially lexicon, clarification of chronology and infiltration of loans, as well as analysis of the influence of historical and social conditions on the dialects and specification of the factors with the greatest impact affecting their vitality. The research of contacts in the Carpathian area presupposes an analysis of exclusive dialect materials kept in the Institute of Slavonic Studies of the Czech Academy of Sciences (the lexical database and recordings from Slovakia and Ukraine made in 1957 – 1967 and 2011 – 2021). In the case of Belarusian dialects, the main source of material will consist of the recordings obtained by M. Jankowiak during field research in 2009 – 2023. In addition, new field work in Slovakia, Poland and Lithuania is planned.
