Geschichte der Grossmährenforschung in den Tschechischen Ländern und in der Slowakei

A thorough survey of the history of the research concerning the history and culture of Great Moravia, the first state of Western Slavs traditionally located to the territory of the present day Czech and Slovak Republics. The work was to some extent initiated by present discussions trying to establish another localisation of this early medieval state. The author traces the gradual transformation of the picture of Great Moravia in the historical reasearch resulting from the discoveries of new literary as well as archaeological sources and examines the ways and purposes of efforts to use (or misuse)the Great-Moravian tradition to various political or nationalist goals. He himself aims at strict objective and non-partisan approach, his conclusions, however, disapprove of some contemporary attempts to discredit Czech and Slovak research.
