An edition of the work of K. J. Erben in the area of Slavic mythology is the result of the grant research. An important part of this consists of Erben’s thus far unpublished mythology dictionary manuscript. For the most part, these are breakthrough texts, often entirely unknown in specialized circles. The project will complete the complex portrait of one of the classic figures of Czech literature from an entirely novel perspective, which is why this edition also contains studies on Erben’s mythological research by M. Černý and its related overview by P. Kaleta. In addition, the volume includes the original introduction from the estate of V. Bechyňová, who unsuccessfully attempted to publish Erben’s Slavic mythology at the beginning of the 1990s. The publication, including 40 illustrations, English and Russian abstracts and a name index, is an important contribution to the history of Czech National Revival period ethnography and folklore studies, as well as to European ethnography.
